We are pleased to inform that there will be a dhamma talk at our centre this Friday 17 December 2010, 8pm by 4 Ven. Ajahns from Thailand. The talk will be in Thai and translated into Mandarin/English.

Do come and learn as this a precious opportunity.

Bio-data of the speakers :

Venerable Ajahn Sawang Kalayano

Venerable Ajahn Sawang Kalayano was born in Sesaket in north east Thailand. Ordained at 21 with Longpo Sri Siriyano from Wat Srimongkon who is the eldest monk in Wat Pah Pong. When he was 3 years in robe, he spent time wandering (‘tudong’) in the north of Thailand. He liked the seclusion and progressed well in his meditation. During the 20 years of teaching and spreading the Dhamma among the hill-tribes, he experienced in person the difficulties of these people. The Ajahn can speak many local dialects and started many forest monasteries in the north. He is very experienced in teaching both youth and children

Venerable Ajahn Tongsai Subhakijjo

Venarable Ajahn Tongsai Subhakijjo was born in north east Thailand. After graduated from school he helped his family as a rice farmer. He worked in Taiwan for 2 years and can speak and write basic Chinese. Weary of competitiveness of the world, he decided to explore the more interesting monastic life. As present he is 14 years in robe and has special interest in bringing youth and children to the Dhamma. He leads the Summer Novice Ordination in Wat Pah Nananchat.

Venerable Ajahn Cagino

Venarable Ajahn Cagino is a Malaysian. He graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Arts with a Diploma of Arts. As a photographer, he has won many awards including a first prize in the Asian Photography Competition. His search for the Dhamma has taken him to Thailand and a forest monastery in New Zealand. Ajahn was a Mahayanist novice in Hong Fu Si Monastery in Penang, he was later ordained as a Theravada monk. 7 years later, he was reordained as a novice in Wat Pah Nanachat to live the monastic life in a new tradition. In total Ajahn has been in robe for 14 years. At present he lives in a cave in northern Thailand where he has been for the last 2 years. Seeing the potential of the children of the hill tribes and the lack of education for these children has led Ajahn to set up the Dhammagiri Foundation.

Venerable Ajahn Tun

Ajahn Maha Tirapanyo(Ajahn Tun) was born in Chonburi, Thailand, in 1967. He graduated as the top medical student of the year in the whole of Thailand. After his graduation, he continued with his medical studies in the American Board of Pediatrics from Children Hospital of Michigan under a scholarship provided by the government of Thailand. During this period, he was awarded The Best of Hospitality Winner. He furthered his medical research in the Pediatric Endocrinology from Children Hospital Medical Centre, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.

After attending a meditation retreat in US, realized that the monastic life is what he had been looking for. He returned to Thailand and went forth in Wat Pah Nanachat. At present, Ajahn is the Buddhist adviser and meditation instructor in hospitals, government departments and schools in the vicinity Wat Pah Bun Lom.

Venerable Kumāra Bhikkhu was ordained in 1999 at the age of 27 by Sayādaw U Revata at Subang Jaya Buddhist Association. Currently, he resides in Sāsanārakkha Buddhist Sanctuary (www.sasanarakkha.org), Taiping, where he learns from Venerable Aggacitta Mahāthera and acts as his personal assistant. The venerable graduated with a bachelor degree in education (TESL) from the University of Malaya. It was during his studies there that he became enthusiastic about the Buddha’s teachings and decided that he wanted to live this life as a monk. Since then, with his training in education, he has been sharing the Dhamma in various ways and in several languages (mainly English, Mandarin and Hokkien) with Buddhists of various traditions and non-Buddhists too. Inspired by his main meditation teacher, Sayādaw U Tejaniya, Venerable Kumāra has been especially interested in spiritual teachings that show how to cultivate wisdom that removes the causes of suffering. Influenced by Venerable Aggacitta Mahāthera, he is open to Dhamma teachings beyond orthodoxy and tradition, so long as they work towards the ending of suffering. Having discovered happiness through this, he is happy to help others do so too.
